Why is the mileage in my carVertical report different from what I see on the vehicle’s odometer?

carVertical cannot check a vehicle’s odometer reading in real-time. Instead, our reports display mileage data recorded by official sources at various points in the past. These sources include national vehicle registries, technical inspection centers, and other verified databases.

This means the mileage shown in your report reflects the most recently available data from these sources, not the current mileage displayed on the vehicle’s dashboard.

How to interpret the odometer data in your report

To better understand the mileage history, follow these steps:

1. Look at the mileage timeline and check for consistency

Your report provides a timeline of recorded mileage readings throughout the vehicle’s lifetime. Check for any gaps, sudden increases, or other inconsistencies. Mileage should generally rise steadily over time, so a sharp decrease may indicate that the odometer has been rolled back.

2. Compare with similar vehicles

Check if the mileage aligns with what is typical for similar vehicles of the same age and model. If the recorded mileage is significantly lower or higher than expected, it could indicate potential discrepancies or unusual usage patterns.

3. Compare with the vehicle’s odometer

If the current odometer reading is lower than the last recorded mileage in the report, the odometer may have been rolled back. If it’s higher, it could mean the report does not yet reflect the most recent updates.
