What is the Natural Disaster section in a vehicle history report?

The Natural Disaster section in a carVertical vehicle history report can show you whether a vehicle may have been located in an area affected by calamities like floods, volcanic eruptions, or tropical cyclones.

Note that his feature doesn’t indicate that the car was harmed by the natural disaster or even that it certainly was in the area of the disaster in question. It simply warns you about such a possibility and encourages you to pay closer attention when inspecting used cars with such records.

How does the Natural Disaster feature work?

If this data is available, the warning that the vehicle’s location was recorded in a particular natural disaster area will be displayed in the Natural Disaster section.

flood damage detected in carVertical report

The report shows a map of the area affected by the natural disaster (marked in red) along with more details related to the event, such as:

  • Date of the event
  • Where it happened (country)
  • Type of natural disaster (flood, volcanic eruption, or tropical cyclone)
  • And its severity (ranked from Low (1) to High (3) based on the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS))

Depending on the type of disaster, the report will also provide a brief tip on what to inspect in such a car.

How can this knowledge help you when buying a used car?

Natural disaster records don’t guarantee damage but suggest it is a possibility. Knowing that a vehicle might have been submerged in water or covered in volcanic ash may prompt you to check specific areas of the car or share this crucial information with a professional mechanic.

Not all damage is visible right away, and even a repaired car may have underlying issues that could cost you thousands in the future. You can avoid such pitfalls by getting a carVertical report.

What if the Natural Disaster section is not available in the report?

The Natural Disaster section may not be available in the report if:

  • There are no records indicating that the vehicle has been located in an area affected by a natural disaster
  • The vehicle was in fact not located in an area affected by natural disasters
